Safeguarding Adults

North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus has launched a campaign to raise awareness of adult abuse.

It is hoped the campaign will help people understand how to recognise, report and prevent abuse if they suspect it.

A vulnerable adult is a person aged over 18 who may need community care services due to mental or other disability, age or illness; and who may be unable to protect themselves against significant harm or exploitation. Abuse can be physical, sexual, verbal, financial, psychological or an act of neglect or institutional practice.

Adverts in bus shelters, buses and billboards around Grimsby and Cleethorpes are asking people ‘Suspect it Prevent it. Report it’ by ringing (01472) 232244/256256., These numbers put people in direct contact with the local safeguarding adults team and Single Point of Access team, who can advise on or respond to any issues raised. Residents in North East Lincolnshire can also expect to receive a leaflet on the topic in November.

Sue Mason, manager of the safeguarding adults team at the Care Trust Plus, said: “Adult abuse is a very important subject that cannot be ignored. We are hoping that this campaign raises awareness of the issue in North East Lincolnshire and encourages more people to get in touch if they suspect that a vulnerable adult may be being harmed or exploited.”

For more information on the local safeguarding adults awareness campaign or safeguarding adults in general, please ring the team on (01472) 232244 (office hours) or (01472) 256256 (Single Point of Access – 24 hours).
