It’s that time of year again for Carer’s Rights Day and the theme of this year’s event is ‘Caring Costs.’The aim of the Carer’s Rights Day is to both raise awareness of the needs of those who care for family or friends and make them and their families aware of the benefits available to them and encourage them to take up the opportunities available.
“It’s estimated that there are currently over 15,000 carers in North East Lincolnshire, many of whom don’t even realise they are carers,” explained the Care Trust Plus’s Carers Strategy Co-ordinator, Nicola Pullman. “Anyone who is unpaid and looks after a relative, partner or friend who has a disability, physical or mental illness, is frail or has a special need is classed as a carer and is eligible for support. We’re hopefully the Carer’s Rights Day will help to raise the profile of what is available.”
The venue for this year’s event will be the Memorial Hall in Cleethorpes on Friday 7 December 10:00am – 3:00pm and will feature stands, benefit and advice surgeries from the Citizens Advice Bureau, Pensions Service and the Community Advice Service and First Aid demonstrations from the Grimsby Institute. Organisations that will be in attendance with stands include, Voluntary Organisations, Home Energy, Carelink, Housing and Council tax plus many more.
The events have been organised by the North East Lincolnshire Carer’s Strategy Group, which includes the Care Trust Plus, Council, voluntary organisations such as the Carers Support Unit and other partner agencies to raise the profile of Carers and their rights in North East Lincolnshire.
