Dr Tony Hill departure

Dr Tony Hill, Director of Public Health will be leaving the Care Trust Plus / North East Lincolnshire Council on 6 June 2010 to take up a new post as joint director of public health and partnerships with Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust and Lincolnshire County Council.

Tony came to the Northern Lincolnshire area nearly 14 years ago, taking up his first director of public health post at South Humber Health Authority before heading up the joint public health directorate covering North and North East Lincolnshire PCTs.

Tony was one of the first in the country to take up a joint director of public health role between an NHS organisation and a Local Authority when the Care Trust Plus was created. He was instrumental in designing the unique approach that is being taken in North East Lincolnshire to tackle health inequalities.

Dr Tony Hill, director of public health said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in North East Lincolnshire. It has been a substantial challenge but also good to be able to report real improvements in health. I am very much looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities in Lincolnshire”

Jane Lewington, chief executive for the Care Trust Plus, said: “We all pass on our many congratulations to Tony on his new appointment but I know I speak on behalf of all Tony’s colleagues when I say how much he will be missed.

“Tony has made a tremendous contribution to public health in North East Lincolnshire. He has led the implementation of many public health programmes aimed at helping people improve their health. This includes the smoking cessation service, all the cancer screening programmes and the very successful health trainer programme to name just a few.”

Councillor Andrew De Freitas, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Tony has contributed an enormous amount to the work of the Council as well as the Care Trust Plus and our wider partnership in terms of delivering improved health and tackling health inequalities in this area.

“We all know these are deep and complex areas, and there is a great deal more to be done, but there is no doubt that Tony has helped tackle these issues with determination and energy.  We wish him well in his future work in Lincolnshire.”
