On Saturday, May 8,100 people joined the North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus older people’s health and wellbeing programme team members in a sponsored poppy walk to raise money for The Royal British Legion (TRBL).
All the sponsorship money will be donated to TRBL, which safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of serving and ex-service people and their families and dependants.
Martin Wakefield, project manger for the older people’s collaborative, said: “I would like to thank The Royal British Legion and the older people’s health and wellbeing team for all the hard work they have done to make this event so successful.
“This walk was really about people getting together to have some fun and raise money for such a worthy cause as the poppy appeal. It’s been a real community event and it’s proved even in this day and age how we still have community sprit in North East Lincolnshire.”
Starting at TRBL Hall, Catergate, Grimsby, Val Waterhouse, Chairman of the Care Trust Plus cut the ribbon to signify the start of the walk. It took the group one and a half hours to reach their destination of TRBL Hall, Austin Garth, Laceby, where they were greeted by a piper who played them to the finish line.
All sponsorship monies will be donated to TRBL’s ongoing poppy appeal and will contribute to providing anything from equipment to clothing for those in need.
