We’re going to Wembley!

Two of the Care Trust Plus’s teams are heading for the sights and sounds of Wembley in July in search of silverware.

The Early Presentation of Cancer Team and Tukes were both selected for the national Health and Social Care Awards after winning their categories at the Regional Awards in April.

From the list of ten Regional winners for each category the judges chose just three services from across the country to be put forward to the national event, making securing nominations in two different categories an even more impressive achievement.

The awards will take place on the evening of the 1 July at Wembley Stadium in London and both teams will be hoping to emulate the success they had at the regional awards where the Early Presentation of Cancer Team scooped the Improving Health and Reducing Inequalities Award for their work encouraging people to recognise the symptoms of cancer and go for help early and Tukes who won the Mental Health & Wellbeing Award for their continued work to provide employment and training opportunities for people suffering from mental health problems in North East Lincolnshire.

John Ogden, General Manager of the Tukes project said:

“All our staff are overjoyed with being short listed, it is a tribute to the members, work placements and volunteers who put in a huge amount of hard work which has made Tukes what it is today.

“It will be a real honour to represent them and the CTP at the awards in July,” he continued.

Cancer Collaborative Project Manager, Julie Grimmer echoed these sentiments, saying:

“To be short-listed down to the final three from all of the Strategic Health Authority regional finalists is a fantastic achievement, especially given that the Collaborative has only been in existence for just over a year.  Tribute must be given to the tremendous commitment of the volunteers whose enthusiasm is overwhelming.”

Jane Lewington, Chief Executive of the Care Trust Plus is keeping her fingers crossed for both teams:

“For both teams to achieve success at a Regional level was fantastic and a fitting tribute to everyone’s innovation and hard work, to succeed at a national level would be the icing on the cake.”
