The cancer collaborative programme at North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus is holding a tea party to help support The Eve Appeal as part of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month (March).
Ovarian cancer is the fourth commonest cause of cancer death amongst UK women. Four in five women with ovarian cancer are diagnosed at a late stage which, which in turn affects good outcomes.
The tea party will help to raise money for The Eve Appeal, which funds ground-breaking research into gynaecological cancer and raises awareness of ovarian cancer.
The tea party is taking place in Cleethorpes on Wednesday, March 9, at St Peter’s Church Hall from 10.30am – 1.30 pm. Julie Grimmer, cancer programme manager for the Care Trust Plus, said: “Every year, around 6,600 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the UK and 4,400 die from the disease. By holding this tea party we are hoping to help save the lives of women affected by ovarian cancer.”
The signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer can include:
- Persistent pelvic and/or abdominal pain
- Increased abdominal size/persistent bloating – not bloating that comes and goes
- Difficulty eating and/or feeling full quickly
Occasionally other symptoms such as urinary symptoms, changes in bowel habit, extreme fatigue or back pain may also be experienced on their own or at the same time as those listed above.
It is most likely that all of these symptoms are not ovarian cancer, but may be present in some women with the disease so it is important to check with a GP.
