The 14
th national Carers Week is being held next week and there’s plenty for people in North East Lincolnshire to get involved with.
The theme of this year’s week is ‘Carers can’t afford to be ill’ and aims to not only celebrate and support the work done by carers but also to inform people who might not even realise they are a carer about the help that is out there for them.
Running from Monday 9 June to Sunday 15
June the series of events will provide the estimated 15,000 carers in North East Lincolnshire a chance to get help and information. The main attraction of the week is the Carers Fayre at the Memorial hall in Cleethorpes.
Held on the 13 June there will be over 40 health and social care exhibitors covering carers assessments, benefits advice and other support services. There will also be demonstrations and taster sessions including Tai Chi, Chair Based Exercises and Holistic Therapies. The Fayre will be officially opened by Mrs Val Waterhouse, Chairman of the Care Trust Plus and the Mayor or North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Colin Eastwood has also confirmed he will be attending.
In addition to the Fayre there are also a number of other activities including a Carers Stand in Freshney Place on Tuesday 10 June and a Pamper Day for carers at the Curzon Centre in Cleethorpes on Saturday 14 June.
Nicola Pullman, Carers Strategy Coordinator for the CTP would like to welcome Carers to the events;
“This is a great opportunity for those people in North East Lincolnshire who care for a family member, friend or neighbour. They will be able to find out a variety of practical and useful information to support them in their caring role, as well as trying out some fun activities and meet other Carers," she explained. "We want to reinforce that there is support out there and urge them to come forward and explore the options available to them.”
Anyone who is currently providing care and wants further information on help available can contact or visit the Carers Support Unit, Wellowgate, Grimsby DN32 0RA, tel: 01472 342011.
