Employability Scheme helps local girl achieve her career aspirations

The North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus ‘Employability’ scheme, providing training and work experience to unemployed has seen one if it’s participants achieve an NVQ qualification.

Adelle Thompson has become the first ‘Employability’ scheme participant to achieve an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration, while working through the scheme at the Open Minds centre on Osborne Street, Grimsby. Since signing up to the scheme in November, Adelle has studied for her NVQ alongside her work at Open Minds and since achieving the qualification has signed up to study an ITQ Level 2.

Sharon Stead, Employability co-ordinator, said of Adelle’s qualification,

“I’m really proud of Adelle. She has been dedicated from the start of her placement and completing her NVQ is evidence of this and enrolling on the ITQ Level 2 qualification demonstrates her commitment to moving forward.”

Adelle began her six month placement at Open Minds after a period of unemployment,

“I got involved with the scheme when I contacted a training centre, asking them to help me gain some experience within the field of admin. Admin is essential in almost every job role out there at the moment and they introduced me to Sharon Stead, the Employability co-ordinator.”

“My experience at Open Minds has also given me the confidence to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and I think this will stand me in a good position for future employment.” Adelle added of her CTP Employability experience.

Michelle Hardy, Open Minds co-ordinator and Adelle’s supervisory mentor said of her achievement, “Adelle has worked very hard towards this qualification with commitment and enthusiasm.  Whilst undertaking this qualification Adelle has gained confidence in using communication and administrations skills.  She has encouraged training in areas in which she was unsure and offered training to her new colleague.  She will be an asset to her future employers.”
